Vazhai Thandu Paruppu Usili or cooked banana stem with lentils


Dry red chilli                               3
Turmeric powder.                     1/4 tsp
Toor dal.                                     1/8 cup or 125 gm
 Finely chopped banana stem 1/2 cup or 500g
Channa dal.                                 2 tsp
Oil.                                               50 ml
Mustard seeds                           1/2 tsp
Asoefitida.                                  One pinch
Salt to taste


It takes around 20 min, if the channa and toor dal are soaked for one hour.  In a pan, heat the oil and add Mustard seeds. After the cracked seeds, add banana stem stir it and close lid for five minutes in a low flame.  Meanwhile, grind both the dal with chillies, salt, asoefitida, turmeric into a coarse paste.  Now, pour the paste in half cooked banana stem and stir it.  Close the lid for 10 min until every ingredient are fully cooked. Finally, add salt and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
